Welcome to Finley Experience

This website is dedicated to LGBT folks who are surviving in this crazy world.

What's good for one isn't necessarily good for another.

Attempting to control the hearts and souls of the masses through force and injustice only forces the seeds of dissension to grow. History has taught this lesson repeatedly. Perhaps, we'll learn the lesson this time.

Flyers on the Car Window in B&N's Parking Lot

Yesterday, I spent time with family at the Barnes & Nobles. When we left we found a flyer under the window. The flyer was actually 3 "newsletters" from the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries. These flyers are full of conspiracy claims involving the Catholic Church and the US Government. Naturally, I didn't throw away the flyers. I read over one of them and did a little quicky wiki research (you can too: Tony Alamo on Wikipedia). Tony Alamo is a real class act, I certainly hope that the 175 years in prison are strenuous and painful. For further information check out the Tony Alamo News website.

I am floored that someone would put that trash on my girlfriend's vehicle. That kind of material is meant for the ignorant and those easily susceptible to propaganda, but definitely not for lesbians like myself. The Tony Alamo Christian Ministries teaches that homosexuals should be put to death. These people are fanatics who have gained a following since beginning their teachings in 1969; the following has and continues to spread propaganda; and, they should be refuted at every turn.

  1. I've been receiving those leaflets over the years from Tony Alamo as well. But I have never read of their Bible-based doctrine to include murder of anyone. You must be gravely mistaken. The closest thing to what you have misstated is written by Paul, the apostle, in the book of Romans, chapter 1. He said homosexuals are worthy of death: "Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." (Romans 1:32)

  2. Dear Anonymous, thank you for your comments. If you click on the link in the original post you will find the sources for each of my claims. The last link in the blog connects to a tract written by Tony Alamo regarding homosexuals and found on his website. I have not misstated any thing and while I may wish I were mistaken, I most certainly am not. Tony Alamo has preached that the bible decrees killing homosexuals and he has brought forth scripture he claims deals with authorizing the deaths of homosexuals. Therefore, my claim that Tony Alamo Christain Ministries advocates killing homosexuals is more than adequately referenced and quite based on fact.

  3. Hi, it's Anonymous again. I did look at your link, which brought me to the writing of Tony Alamo. I must press this issue, because you are wrongly accusing this man of promoting murder by quoting a Bible Scripture. As I quoted, it doesn't say to murder anyone. The apostle Paul says for their actions, they are worthy of death and damnation, but he does not authorize, decree, or promote killing. As you can see, Tony Alamo says these aren't his words, but Bible scripture he wants people to be aware of. If he wants to warn people or make them aware of this scripture, he has that right, without being accused of promoting murder.

  4. Anonymous hello again! Thank you for participating in civil discourse. I believe I see where we differ in perspectives: the act of a religious leader (in this case, Tony Alamo) bringing forth scripture that speaks of any persons being "worthy of death" is directly threating to the persons deemed death-worthy. The kind of hate-mongering speech that points fingers saying X-type of person is "worthy of death" is nothing less than advocation of murder.

  6. Estelle, I think you are quite right on all accounts (specially, the need for a sarcasm font).
