Congrats to the Winners of the Golden Crown Literary Society's 2014 Awards

Are you a lesbian? Do you love literature? Do you love lesbian literature? Yeah. Me, too. Guess what? So, too, the GCLS and her attendees. WOW. Lesbian bibliophiles are amazing to behold. They exist. Just in case you felt alone out there. You're not. There are others. They are lesbian biliophiles, too, and they rock.
I met so many wonderful people and had great experiences and encounters with many new friends. I was shocked and awed to even be present for I did not think I'd be able to attend. By the grace of loving benefactors, I was able to go. And, what a marvelous event it was. I'm so jazzed, right now. :D
My heart felt thanks to Beth Mitchum, the GCLS, and my loving benefactors. You are all wonderful people that I am blessed to know.
I was honored that The Finley Human Experience was nominated for a Goldie Award for Poetry. I am humbled that The Finley Human Experience won a Goldie Award (click the link to watch the poetry acceptance speeches).

RIP Yahoo! Voices: Another Writing Platform Gone
Dear Readers,
I apologize for not getting this out to you earlier. Yahoo! is closing their website Yahoo! Contributor Network (Yahoo! Voices, formerly Associated Content). This means that the internet community is losing another user generated content platform. Fortunately, Yahoo! has made it easy for content producers (peeps like me) to download their work. If you're a content producer follow these steps to recover your work before July 31st, 2014 (the date the site goes dark).

A Poem for Ukraine, Winners of the 4th Annual Finley Experience International Views Contest
Hi all!
Here's the first poem for Ukraine, this year's first place winner of the 4th Annual Finley Experience International Views contest. Considering the serious and bloody situation in the Ukraine, I thought war might be the appropriate subject of this first poem.
On Civil War
Eheu,
humankind.
Know ye not that death comes
with war? What is this urge that drives
the bella machina? A pastime once played
by RPGing kings, later assimilated into the
infrastructure of the military-industrial
complex. Age, gender, these
matter not when
murderous
missiles
rip
open
your inner
peace.
I know not what to do to save any of us from the thick
pools of red trickling down these shell-shocked streets.

Winners of the 4th Annual Finley Experience "International Views" Contest
Welcome to the results for the 4th Annual Finley Experience "International Views" Contest!
Here are the final Page Views for the top nine countries.

Ukraine took the lead this year, even with civil war raging in some of her eastern cities she managed 3768 views. That means that I now owe Ukraine a couple poems. Way to go, Ukraine, you really stepped up your game. Y'all finished in 6th place last year during the 3rd Annual Finley Experience "International Views" Contest.
For the first time in the history of the contest, Russia fell from first to second place. No worries, you will still see a few works with Russia as subject, after all I still owe Russia a few poems from their previous wins.
China fell to third place this year, after their surprising second place finale last year. Hey China, there's always the 5th Annual Finley Experience "International Views" Contest. Just get those views in. :)
I'd like to congratulate Israel for their fourth place finish. They're up from eighth place last year.
Germany, France, and the United Kingdom fell from 3rd, 4th, and 5th places to 5th, 6th, and 7th places, respectively.
Poland, you're hanging in there, but, I know you can do better. Let's see what you've got for the 5th Annual.
And, this year's 9th place Canada knocked Brazil completely off the leaderboard. Come on Brazil, you can make a comeback for the 5th Annual Finley Experience "International Views" Contest.

RIP Helium.com: It's So Sad to Say Goodbye
Three bits of "official" news from the Helium Network:
1.) May 21st, 2014 is the last day to publish on the Helium Network before the site goes "read only".
2.) December 15th, 2014 the site will be permanently closed.
3.) Content providers that have not reached the minimum balance will not be paid; all have until December 15th, 2014 to reach said balance.

In a previous post entitled, Regarding Recent Changes to Helium.com, I commented on Helium.com's changes as well as "new" links to my content. Follow the link if you're interested in reading any of those pieces while Helium is still online.
In the coming months, I'll be editing, rewriting, and finding new homes for the pieces originally hosted on Helium. As always, I will post the new links here on the Finley Experience blog.

Rectifying War Blues
Troubled pasts
now passed trouble.
War. She cried.
For why? Power.
No war lost laboring for
unnecessary loves.
(I beg to differ: ask Paris
about Helen of Troy).
Rubbled lasts
now lasted rubble.
War. They died.
Why for? Power.
No love lost laboring for
unnecessary wars.
(I beg to differ: ask Snowden
about PRISM of NSA).

This one is for all of you...For all the soldiers, the seperatists, the federalists, the statists, the globalists, for all the war mongers, the anti-war activists, and for all the neutrals (those dear hearts caught in between).
Stay safe or as safe as you can given it is a big, scary, yet, dangerously beautiful world out there. Some times people die for causes, some times they die for governments, some times they die in vain.
War, like the tango, requires (at least) two. That's two sides, two versions, two visions, and two blood-skewed perspectives. How do we rectify humanity's predilection for war? With hate or with love? I think you know the answer.

Poem: Woke up in Ukraine
Here's a paragraph poem for you, Ukraine, for those who suffer and those who fight for the end of suffering...
I woke up this morning in Ukraine. So many told me there'd be Russian bombs raining and ICBMs falling from clear skies. I cried out. What else was I to do? Skies were to bleed the red blood of life lost for political gain. And, I wondered how I found myself here. I wasn't sure where here was...you see, I've never been to the Ukraine before. I saw doors opening and closing rapidly. I wanted to help, begged for someone to open their door to me. Things are never what they seem. I wasn't anywhere. I was everywhere. I wasn't there. I wasn't here.
How can I judge the actions? How can I judge the reactions? Who am I to make assessments regarding the politics of people half-way 'round the globe? Not like I ever wore the black robes of justice to cover up the words I ought not say, nor the thoughts I ought not think. But, here we are on the brink - of what? Russian intervention in a Ukrainian civil war? What's in store for those who know not what doors open and close? It's not like those alive today chose the path their countries' must take. In all actuality they're walking the paths chosen by generations that came before. Some like vampires trying to avoid stakes to the heart, forget that lack of sun is not the hard part. We're all walking paths put down before us by people long gone before they ever got to know us. We're riding on some yellow ass school bus waiting for the driver to take us to places we'd rather not be, with people we'd rather not see, doing things we'd rather not do. I'd say sue, but who can sue when their government is on the brink and waiting to sink into a sea so dark they call it Black? I'd say it's a crime, but what crime can be in a place called Crimea? No crime is less than that old fashioned Holodomor, death by starvation always worked for Stalin, Hitler, you know, the kings of terror?
Just ask the rest of the world's starving children with their stomachs extended in want of nutrition, in want of a wealthy nation's contrition (not that contrition ever fed the hungry). But, how is it we find ourselves in the same places, in the same spaces, arguing the same topics? I thought by now we could claim: "We've got this!" I hear them sing: "We don't got a thing, 'cause we ain't got that swing." And, smart hearts all twinge at the repetition of horrendousness that's swept through the globe like technology never existed. It exists. We exist. Word of these crimes run naked through cyber streets faster than protestors with a destination so clear the MSM suggests mass evacuations. I heard the rumble of tanks, the whir of fighters, and I looked to the skies wondering, when will the bombs start falling? Then, all of a sudden, I was startled awake. I was in my bed not the least bit asleep, not half-way 'round the world, not in the line of danger. I'm just a stranger having nightmares for those with no choice but to live out their daymares. I woke up at home with worried thoughts of Ukraine and I wondered how many weary others have done the same?

Regarding the Recent Changes to Helium.com
Helium.com has revamped their site and added a slew of "microsites". I'm not yet sure how I feel about the changes, afterall, I just found out. And, from what I can tell the changes started in October/November of 2013. So, right off the bat, I'll say that the failure to notify charter members of Helium.com via email is a big let down. On another note...the original site required all writers to insert keywords from which the original URLs were derived...somehow in the transition the keywords from the URLs have become the new "titles" of each work. This is a major title fail, IMHO. We'll have to wait and see what solution they come up with, if any. That said, please pardon me if you read a title that makes zero sense.
